An American couple made an eye watering discovery while flipping an abandoned “hoarder home” in California.

Tiffany Ma and her boyfriend Matt Fine purchased what was regarded as the worst home on their Los Angeles block, with plans to create a dream home for potential buyers.

When construction began the couple, who had purchased the property unseen, were shocked to discover their future “million-dollar listing” was an abandoned home filled with mountains of junk, “cool stuff” as well as some hidden treasures.

Inside the fixer-upper, the couple found two safes, one which had been broken into and another 1815kg safe which remained locked although it appeared to have been tampered with, which the couple soon found out was as a result of an attempted robbery only a few days prior.

“I think someone who knew the previous owners did it because they even knew where the hidden 4000lb (1815kg) safe in the shed was,” Ms Ma said in a TikTok video.

After hours of grinding and hacking away at the locked safe, the couple were finally able to see what was concealed in the container.

“What we actually found was insane,” said the YouTuber.

The couple found animal carcasses, weapons and what Ms Ma believes to be “blackmail” photos of women in lingerie, alongside a 1815kg safe in the garage.

She also found rare coins from the 1960s inside the safe, believed to be of high value, gun ammo and a scrapbook containing pictures and what appeared to be human hair, leading the couple to speculate the previous owner had been involved in illegal activity.

The pair also pulled out a bag containing pieces of jewellery, family heirlooms, a diamond engagement ring, a WWII dagger, old money and scrapbooks, with the renovator saying she could not show the remaining contents in the safe before contacting the police.

“We did find some stuff that is not safe to show you guys … we did find some stuff that I am shocked at, I can’t believe we found these things … I can’t show you the craziest things we found,” she said.

Ms Ma took to YouTube and TikTok to share their initial reaction to the findings as well as the process of sorting through the thousands of items piled up in the home.

The 28-year-old described being overwhelmed with a rotten smell as she entered the home which was covered in dust, dirt and dead animals.

“The house reeked of wet dogs and cigarettes, the medicine cabinet was left open and the dirty dishes were piled high,” she said.

“The curtains were rotting away.

“The bathroom was the cleanest room in the house and it gave me the absolute creeps to walk inside of it,” said Ms Ma while showing a tidy bathroom, with a small number of dead cockroaches in the bath.

The couple decided to completely knockdown and rebuild the home, after struggling to renovate to keep existing parts of the home.

Many of the couple’s 1.8 million YouTube subscribers were quick to analyse the items found in the safe.

“Is there an evidence of a murder,” questioned one user.

“Maybe a kidnap case,” said another.

Others clarified the value of some of the items found.

“That German blade is very valuable … those pieces of jewellery would definitely be valuable,” said a subscriber.

The previous homeowner was reported to have died without leaving a will, so the house was sent to auction.
