STATEN ISLAND, New York - Police are looking for three male suspects after a robbery in a McDonald's parking lot in Staten Island on Monday.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department said on Tuesday that the alleged incident was reported at 1815 Forest Avenue near Richmond Avenue in Granitville before 4 pm.

The teenage suspect sat in a Ford Escape with the owner (a 17-year-old man, the police said he knew the suspect). One of them allegedly threatened to stab the victim, saying, "This is a gang—", The police said.

One of the suspects told the victim, "This is my car now", and then allegedly took the key from him. The spokesperson said that they also stole another personal item, the details of which were not initially specified in the report.

The male fled on foot for unknown reasons. Soon after, according to the emergency radio broadcast, a police chase followed. As of Tuesday, no one has been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing.

The incident is the latest in a worrying increase in the number of carjackings and GLAs reported on Staten Island in the past two years.

According to CompStat data from the New York Police Department, as of December 5, car thefts have increased by nearly 10% compared to the same period last year. According to Advance/SILive.com, by 2020, they have increased by 37% compared to 2019.
