Robotics students at Glen Ames Senior Public School are continuing the school’s established tradition of participating in FIRST Lego League (FLL) tournaments.

This year's team will enter its FedRx creation at this year's Ontario competition, which will be held on Saturday, December 11.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League is part of the International Federation of Educators, which aims to challenge young students to use Lego Mindstorms technology to find solutions to real-world problems. This type of Lego allows students to test their coding skills while using Lego hardware and software.

The real challenge faced by the Glen Ames team members is how to use technology and robotics to help people, especially the elderly and people with limited mobility, ensure that their prescription drugs can be safely and legally delivered to their homes.

The Glen Ames team calls themselves Box To The Future, describing the FedRx solution like this:

"Many people, especially the elderly, people who are pressed for time and people with limited mobility, find it difficult to get a prescription. Now the prescription can be delivered to your home, but according to current regulations, a signature is always required. This is not always feasible for a long audience. Therefore, we have developed an accessible solution. We have built an electronic security lock box that provides safe, hands-free treatment of your medications with COVID. Digitally sign and receive."

Basically, FedRx is a safe box at your door or in the lobby of a building that can be used by delivery personnel to safely deliver prescription drugs for specific people.

There is a place on the box to read the barcode of the prescription being delivered. If it matches what it should receive, the box will open and the medicine will be put in. The box will also send a digital signature to the company that delivered it. The owner of the box can then use fingerprint technology to open it to retrieve their delivery.

The box uses a combination of "advanced machinery and advanced programming" to provide this safe method of prescription drug delivery.

The Glen Ames robotics team has a long history in FLL games, and some of these teams have achieved provincial, national and international success.

Team Box To The Future hopes to inherit this legacy, although given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year and the past year have been a challenge for the school’s robotics students.

Hi Beach Metro This is-from the Glen Ames robotics team. Thank you for your article! ! ! Our name really helps in many ways. The judges of the live competition on December 11th will love this kind of publicity. Did you know that approximately 89% of GA students in grades 7-8 would like to see inventions such as FedRX become a realm?
